A DANCE event will put organ donation in the spotlight as a thank you to the hospital which saved a young Stourbridge boy's life.

Style Dance School principal teacher Csaba Polgar, from Stourbridge, has organised The Style Charity Ballroom Dance Evening which will take place at the Gilt Edge Social Club, Zortech Avenue, Kidderminster, this Saturday (September 5).

Mr Polgar is hosting the event, which starts at 6pm, to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s liver unit where his son Kristof, now seven, underwent a liver transplant at the age of three.

He said: "The hospital saved my son’s life so we hope to raise money and awareness of organ donation on Saturday.

“Kristof was severely disabled before his transplant and in 2011 he received the most precious gift you can ever get, the gift of life.

“Now he is living a quality life, attends school and the Staffordshire county tennis training sessions at Tipton Sports Academy. He also plays table tennis and badminton regularly.

“Thanks to all who attended last year’s event, we raised over £1,100 and contributed to the purchase of a Fibroscan which is a non-invasive, painless alternative to liver biopsy.

“We remain determined to give something back to Professor Kelly and all her staff that cares for Kristof. The event is also organised in loving memory of Kristof’s donor, Justin.”

Last month, Kristof scooped three gold medals in mini-tennis, table tennis and badminton as a member of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Team at the British Transplant Games.

The team also won the ‘Best Children’s Team’ title for the 19th year in a row.

The Kidderminster dance event precedes National Transplant Week, which takes place from September 7 to 13.
