MEET the musical Diakov family from Wall Heath.

Eldest daughter Polina, who is almost 14, won a scholarship to study the oboe at Birmingham Conservatoire three years ago.

Now younger brother Maxim is following in her footsteps after being accepted by the Conservatoire as well, although the 11-year-old prefers to play the French horn.

He was originally being taught to play the trumpet through Dudley Performing Arts, but switched to the French horn instead.

Mum Claudia plays the piano at Cotwell End Primary School in Sedgley where she works as a teaching assistant and her sister is a music teacher in Surrey, while her niece is a cellist.

Claudia said: "It's all my sister's fault. She suggested Polina should audition for the Conservatoire and they accepted her straight away.

"We had to take Polina to Birmingham while she was studying and had to wait around all day, that's when Maxim said he wanted to play an instrument and join the Conservatoire as well."

The only non-musician in the family is dad Alexei, but Claudia claimed: "He's thinking of taking up the recorder so he doesn't keep missing out."
