KINVER'S Wheels Park played host to VIP visitor the Rt Honourable Gavin Williamson who was keeping a promise to visit the site.

The South Staffordshire MP was unable to attend the official opening of the park, situated on the Marsh Playing Fields, because it took place just two days after the General Election in May.

Although the original bike track was built in 2009 at a cost of £17,000, it proved so popular the site was constantly having to be repaired so it was decided to completely rebuild the track this year at a cost of £23,500.

The money was raised through Kinver Action Group, which managed to obtain a number of grants, and designed and constructed by mountain bike champion Ricky Crompton.

It has since proved a huge hit with youngsters from throughout the region who travel from Kidderminster, Kingswinford, Wordsley and Stourbridge just to make use of the free facility.

Kinver Action Group's fundraising officer Margaret Rogers said: "Gavin couldn't come to the official opening because he had too many Parliamentary duties to perform in his role as the Prime Minister David Cameron's private secretary, but stressed he would like to visit at the earliest opportunity.

"The track has become a real communal hub in Kinver and attracts youngsters of all ages, right up to their early twenties.

"It works really well and it's always nice to see the older ones helping the youngsters out.

"Kinver Action Group is a youth community group always looking for projects to help the younger generation."
