SMOKERS in the borough who want help to quit will be offered plenty of support during this year’s Stoptober campaign.

The Dudley Stop Smoking Service will be taking to the road, stopping off at venues across Stourbridge, Halesowen and Dudley to offer free carbon monoxide tests, together with help and advice on quitting for good.

They will be at Dudley Council Plus on Monday (October 5), Stourbridge Job Centre on Tuesday (October 6) and Halesowen Job Centre on Wednesday (October 7) between 10am and 3pm.

Evidence shows if a smoker can go 28 days without a cigarette, they are five times more likely to stay permanently smoke-free.

Quitting smoking can be a difficult process but successfully quitting has significant health, monetary and social benefits.

Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “We have had great success in recent years in helping more and more people to stop smoking, which is not only a health benefit but a financial one too.

"In one year not only could a 20-a day smoker say goodbye to coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing but could also save over £2,350 if they quit.”
