COURAGEOUS young people have been celebrated at a Brierley Hill children’s organisation’s red-carpet awards ceremony.

Tappy Twins founder Suzanne Skeete teamed up with Jo Jeffries to launch the inaugural Courageous Kids Awards in Birmingham.

The event celebrate the achievements of children who have overcome trauma and upheaval, and the glittering ceremony was attended by a number of sports’ personalities, TV and radio presenters and celebrities.

Prize winners included 15-year-old Alisha Uddin, who took home the ‘drive and determination award’ and ‘beat the bullies award’ after overcoming four years of bullying, as well as facing her own adversities. She has since joined Tappy Twins as a young ambassador.

Alisha, who received her award from Hollyoaks actor Parry Glasspool – well known as his character Harry Thompson, said: “I am extremely proud of receiving these awards and can't believe that Harry from Hollyoaks gave me my award.

“I am thankful Courageous Kids Awards recognised my journey. This led to an increase in my self-belief and I strive to achieve better things with the help of Suzanne.

“I am proud to be young ambassador for Tappy Twins and once I have finished with my education, I have even been given a job to work with them, where I can use my experiences to help other children.”

Other honours included 13-year-old Chloe Boxley who received the ‘most achieved award’, Isma Bibi, 15, who was given the ‘independence award’ and Kelsie Moss, 11, who took home the ‘positive attitude award’.

Suzanne said: “What a night it was. It was fantastic and we were able to raise £7,095 to provide free online and mobile interface to some of the most vulnerable children in the Midlands.

“The platform will provide support and solutions around the clock and I have made it my mission to ensure every child is aware of our existence as soon as is humanly possible.

“With support from the local corporate and media community, and a set conceived and created by AV company mclcreate, which kindly donated over £32,000 for the production and did an amazing job, the event was a huge success.”
