STOURBRIDGE jazz pianist Simon Deeley will be launching his first-ever album at the next Jazz at The Bonded Warehouse event.

The Soul Jazz and Latin Vibes concert on Friday February 12 will see The Simon Deeley Trio performing with Mark Brown on sax and Richard Baker on trombone.

Kicking off at 7.30pm, the evening will focus on Latin Jazz - a fusion of mainly Cuban and Brazilian music with 1950s and 1960s jazz - and soul jazz, which saw musicians of the 1960s and 70s infusing their writing with blues and Gospel music.

Music by the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Dizzy Gillespie, Luiz Bonfa, Stan Getz, Horace Silver, Bobby Timmons, Lee Morgan and Joe Zawinul will feature in the programme.

The band will also play compositions by 58-year-old professional pianist Mr Deeley from his new CD entitled Crossing Borders, which will be available to buy on the night.

Clent-born Mr Deeley, who now lives on the Welsh borders but still returns to Stourbridge for the Bonded Warehouse concerts and to teach piano, said: "It features all my own compositions. I've been wanting to do it for a few years and I've been working on it since last summer really."

The album, recorded at Backyard Studios on the Welsh/Shropshire border, features Mr Deeley's Trio and Mark Brown on double bass.
