EMERGENCY sewer repairs are causing delays on the A491 at Wordsley.

There's congestion between the Brierley Hill Road junction and Brettell Lane due to multi-way traffic signals at the junction of Plant Street - which have been installed to enable motorists to pass a section of road damaged by a sewer collapse.

Dudley borough highways chiefs say they have advised Severn Trent Water that the signals must be manually controlled from 7am to 7pm each day to help prevent traffic building up.

Andrew Sumner, Dudley's network manager, however, said it was inevitable that "significant delays" would still result as traffic can only flow in one direction at a time.

The water company has been told to complete the work by March 21 at the latest.
