A TEENAGED girl has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car in Wollescote this morning (Tuesday March 15).
The 16-year-old had suffered a potentially serious head injury in the crash which happened on Hodge Hill Avenue at around 8am.
Two ambulances, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a trauma doctor on board and a senior paramedic manager were sent to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the teenager had initially been reported to be unconscious but she had started to come round while ambulance staff were treating her.
The spokesman added: “After assessment, the doctor on the aircraft anaesthetised her at the scene before she was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. She had also been immobilised.”
The car involved in the smash “had considerable damage” and the female driver was taken to Russells Hall Hospital by ambulance as a precaution.
Highways chiefs said the incident had left Wollescote Road closed between Hodge Hill Avenue and Springfield Avenue.
