MEMBERS of Brierley Hill's 2156 Squadron Air Training Corps are well on their way to forming a new marching band thanks to the kindness of Carol Westwood who has provided them with a new set of drums in memory of her late husband Jack.
Not only has she provided them with three brand new tenor drums, but Jack's own big base drum as well.
Norman Heath, membership secretary for the Kinver and Enville branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "Carol joined the Royal British Legion after Jack died in 2014. When she heard the squadron were trying to form a new marching band she didn't hesitate to provide the drums. It was a wonderful gesture.
"Jack had been a bandsman since he was a boy.
"He was a member of Dudley Boy's Brigade and head boy at Dudley Technical College.
"Jack served three years in the army as a trooper with the Household Cavalry and later became a heating engineer.
"He was a staunch member of the Royal British Legion in Kinver and lived in Dark Lane.
"We don't have a band at Kinver, so Jack would lead the parade on Remembrance Day Services and at Kinver Country Fayre with a single drum.
"His memory will live on as they will be known as 'The Jack Westwood Drums'."
