A PROGRAMME of free summer band concerts at Himley Hall kicks off this weekend.

The West Midlands Concert Band will be kicking off the season of music, sponsored by Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, at the Dudley Council-run venue this Sunday (May 29) from 2.30pm to 5pm.

The band is a volunteer community band, based in Wolverhampton, comprising musicians of all ages – and they will be performing songs from classic films plus marching pieces and classical adaptations.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley’s cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “Concerts at Himley Hall and Park have always proved extremely popular with visitors and I’m sure this year will be no exception.

“It’s a great opportunity for all the family to enjoy free outdoor entertainment within this beautiful historic setting and it’s fantastic to be supported by Wolverhampton Grand Theatre which is sponsoring this season’s performances.”

Other concerts throughout the summer will include the BJ Concert Band on Sunday June 19, Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass Band on Sunday July 17 and the Black Country Ukulele Band on Sunday August 7.

People are encouraged to take along deckchairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy the afternoon. Limited seating will be provided.

Refreshments will be available from the hall’s tea room, which will be open from 2pm to 4.30pm.

Concerts will also be taking place at Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, and Stevens Park, Quarry Bank, during the summer months.
