A TEAM of dedicated fundraisers raised more than £6,000 after cycling almost 110 miles from Stourbridge to the Welsh coast.

Led by Stourbridge man Martin Whelan, who organised the charity cycle ride in memory of his late mother, the group raised the money in aid of Lye’s Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Finishing off at Islawrffordd Caravan Park, near Barmouth, the 12-hour ride saw the group taking in the idyllic scenes of Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, Welshpool and Dolgellau.

Stourbridge News:

Martin said: “The Barmy Ride to Barmouth was a fantastic experience and a great way to fundraise for two causes very close to my heart.

“I couldn’t have done it without our team of cyclists and to everyone who sponsored us, including All Electric Garages in Stourbridge.

“We are already planning our next fundraising challenge – the Barmy Ride to Land’s End, and are looking for sponsorship to support our ride and next year’s chosen charity’s, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and Wales Air Ambulance.”

Adam Williams, fundraising manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “Martin and the team’s commitment to raising money has been exceptional and every penny raised will make a real difference to our charity and Macmillan.

“We are looking forward to supporting Martin next year, and would encourage local businesses to get behind him and the guys.”

Emily Morgan, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Martin and the team for all their hard work raising an amazing amount for both charities.

“We wish them all good luck on their next big challenge.”
