Stourbridge Chess Club

The annual post-season friendly Tony Evers match against Halesowen was held on July 19th at Halesowen’s venue. Stourbridge fielded a commendable 14 players and with one loanee from Halesowen (thanks to Paul Taylor) allowed a 15 board match to be played. On paper it looked like Stourbridge should win as they out graded their opponents on the lower boards but in the end they won handsomely with Halesowen only winning 2 games as opposed to Stourbridge’s 10 wins. The final result was Halesowen 3½ - Stourbridge 11½.

After 3 rounds of Stourbridge’s Summer tournament, it’s very tight at the top with all players having lost some points. What the final outcome will be is very unclear as 7 players share the lead on 2 points out of a possible 3 with two more rounds to go. Martin Berridge, Colin Woodall, Chris Cox, John Foxall and Eric Horwill all won their third round games.
