COOMBSWOOD surrendered vital ground in their push for promotion from Worcester County League Division Two when they lost out to Feckenham by 45 runs.

Feckenham were able to pile on the runs as they reached a daunting 280 for five thanks largely to the fforts of Luke Jasckson who made 72 and Josh Stacey who scored 71 not out.

The Wood took up the chase with scores from Gulhyam Abbas 76, Sam Perruzza 33 and Zahid Kafiat on 56 kedpt them up with the asking rate.

Careless shots then cost Coombswood wickets as Jamie Griffiths with four for 23 and Mitch Douglas on two for 29 ripped out the middle and lower order as the chase faltered to 235 all out.

The result leaves Coombswood third in the table, 18 points adrift of second placed Chaddesley Corbett whop they visit this Saturday in what could prove a crunch game.

Coombswood Seconds missed a glorious chance to beat league leaders Worcester Nomads.

That was after Nomads had built a huge total of 298 from their 50 overs.

The Wood responded well and going into the final seven overs required just 35 runs with five wickets in hand.

With victory within their grasp, The Wood imploded and were bowled out 21 runs short of their target.

The Thirds beat neighbours Romsley by five wickets and now take on Stone this Saturday.
