GUITARIST Matt Roberts, a founding member of the rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 38.

The musician was in West Bend, Wisconsin to perform at a benefit.

The West Bend Police Department said someone called authorities at around 7am local time on Saturday to report an unconscious man in a hotel hallway.

Police and firefighters found Roberts dead.

Several pills taken from Prince’s estate in Paisley Park after his death were counterfeit drugs that actually contained the powerful opioid fentanyl, an official close to the investigation has revealed.

Many of the pills were found inside aspirin and vitamin bottles tucked in a suitcase, in duffel bags and in a dressing room, the source told the Associated Press.

A delirious sold-out crowd attended the final gig by Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, whose lead singer and songwriter Gord Downie has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Frontman Gord led the show enthusiastically despite his diagnosis with gliboblastoma, the most aggressive type of cancerous brain tumour, in December.

The concert on Saturday marked the end of a 15-show tour for the band, entitled Man Machine Poem.

The BBC should have tried to keep hold of Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, whose talent they could ill afford to lose, former director general Mark Thompson has said.

While Clarkson could be a “deeply objectionable character”, he “spoke to people who didn’t find much else at the BBC”, Mr Thompson said in an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine.
