A CCTV recording device has been discovered today (Tuesday, August 30) by investigators who are looking into the fire at popular Wall Heath restaurant Hickory’s Smokehouse.

The restaurant went up in flames early on Thursday morning (August 25) and investigators have been back at the site today to further their enquiries.

The fire detectives have been searching through the masses of debris to uncover what caused the blaze which had more than 100 firefighters tackling it at its height.

But they have now found a CCTV recording device which will be passed onto experts to assess the footage, which the fire service hope will shed more light on the investigation.

Neil Spencer, spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service, said: “The fire is still being investigated and the investigator was back at the scene this morning.

“In the masses of debris they have located the CCTV recording device and an expert will be looking at this sometime later this week.

“If they can assess the footage that will cast more light on where and how the fire started.”

Mr Spencer added that the investigation is a joint one between the fire service and two insurance companies and is not a police matter at this stage.
