A 28-day national stop smoking campaign returns to Dudley borough for the fifth time this month.

Stoptober, a Public Health England initiative which encourages and supports smokers across the country to quit for good, is being supported by Dudley’s ‘Stop Smoking Service’ team.

They will be bringing their ‘Know Your CO’ (carbon monoxide) roadshow to Stourbridge town centre’s Crown Square today (Wednesday, October 5) and Halesowen’s Sommer Square on Thursday (October 6).

While in the towns, they will offer carbon monoxide testing, together with help and advice on quitting and referring people to the Stop Smoking Service, either through their GP or a pharmacy.

There are currently seven million smokers in the UK, with an estimated 45,900 smokers across Dudley borough.

Councillor Rachel Harris, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for health, said: “Everyone’s quitting journey is different, but nobody needs to do this alone.

“Nearly a million people have taken part since Stoptober began five years ago, it’s the biggest stop smoking challenge of its kind, and it works.

“We know that people who stop smoking for 28-days, are five times more likely to quit for good, and with specialist local support from the Dudley Stop Smoking Service, quitting is an achievable goal.”
