A STOURBRIDGE karate club will be raising money for a children's charity during an event this weekend.

Young Gloves Karate, which holds clubs twice a week on the town, will host an event on Sunday (November 27) to raise money for New Hope, a charity based in Worcester.

More than 300 students, including children and adults, will compete in the event, battling for 84 trophies in Kata and Kumite, whilst fundraising through sponsorships, raffles and stalls for the charities.

Lisa Homer, events co-ordination marketing manager at the karate club said: "We are so lucky to have such generous members, family and friends that support us every year in doing these events."

Last year the group raised £4,000 in their Young Gloves Charity Competition and are hoping to help New Hope build a sensory garden and play area.

Over the past 10 years, the group has given over £50,000 to local children's charities.

Young Gloves hold two events every year as part of their charity fund raising, they have already had their awards evening for this year and this weekend will end with the karate competition.

The event begins at 10am at the martial arts school's Kidderminster centre but it is only available for club members - anyone else is allowed to go along and watch.

New Hope are a non-profit specialist provision working with families who have children with disabilities and complex health care needs.
