JUNIOR members of Wyre Forest Company of Archers made a successful start to the year with individual and team victories in the West Midlands Archery Society indoor championships promoted by the County of Warwick Archery Association.

Shooting a Portsmouth round of five dozen arrows at a distance of eighteen metres Freya Palmer was top scorer in the under 16 girls section with a total of 547 including 27 golds.

Making a return to competition after six months following surgery on a hand injury Stourport High School pupil Lauren Turner took the under 14 girls title with a score of 516 including 14 golds.

Heike Palmer was the top scorer in the under 12 girls with a total of 483 and 10 golds while Wolverley High School pupil Kurtis Dearn won the under 14 boys competition with a score of 470 including eight golds.

In the ladies open recurve event Karen McKay took top honours with a score of 525 and 13 golds.

There was more success in the club's annual Portsmouth tournament with wins for Lindsey Brazier in the ladies compound with a score of 575 and 35 golds and Heike Palmer in the under 12 girls recurve with 515 and 15 golds.

There were second places for Anne Rutland in the ladies compound and Melissa Smallman in the ladies recurve with scores of 571 and 554 respectively.
