KNITTERS are being asked to help and Age UK meet its target of making a whopping two million woolly hats to adorn smoothie bottles.

So far, one million hats have been made as part of this year’s Big Knit campaign but there is still a way to go before the target is met.

The hats will be paired with innocent smoothie bottles and go on sale later this year, with a 25p donation from each bottle sold going towards the charity's work to help and support older people across the country.

Chris Szygowski, chief officer of Age UK Dudley, said: “We know so many of you in Dudley love knitting and we’ve enjoyed seeing the range of colourful creations coming in so far – we’ve had traditional woolly hats, cute animals and even some well-known characters.

“But now we need you to carry on knitting for us and get as many hats to us as you can by July 31.

"We can’t wait to see what Dudley has in store for us!”

The knitting pattern is available to download from www.ageuk.org.uk/bigknit.

Alternatively, people can pop into one of the charity's shops or centres to pick up a leaflet and drop off completed hats.

For those unable to get to a centre or shop, collection can be arranged by calling 01384 354508.
