A BLACK Country film-maker is hoping to bring the true life story of film icon Sir Norman Wisdom to the big screen.

Writer Kevin Powis from Halesowen and Birmingham-based producer Martin Nigel Davy were behind the movie legend’s last-ever film appearance back in 2007.

The pair managed to entice the much-loved star to appear in their short charity flick Expresso which was shot at Waseley Hills Country Park in January 2007, just under three years before the screen funnyman died.

Now – they’re embarking on a project that aims to bring Sir Norman back onto the big screen.

The duo are currently working on a feature length script, tentatively entitled Norman’s Conquest, about the life and adventures of the late star who was one of the UK’s best-loved comedians.

Kevin, of Lastindependent.TV, said: “It was obvious thoughts would eventually turn to a feature film about the great man.

“I’d been working on the script for a while and last year had the chance to take a trip down the Amazon river for a couple of months with many days at sea. I found it ideal for concentrating on the script and when I returned I had the first draft ready to go.

"Now it’s a case of getting the script out to as many industry professionals as I can.

"And this needs a creative approach. For instance I found out the head of Elstree Studios was a massive Norman fan. To my amazement he replied to an email I sent and said he’d love to read the script and give me feedback. He even tweeted about it to the thousands of industry professionals who follow him on Twitter.”

Kevin and Nigel are now trying to raise awareness of the project.

Anyone interested in finding out more or keen to read the script, which is available to buy as a book for £20, can go to website www.wisdomthemovie.co.uk.
