A POPULAR Black Country musical theatre company have announced the Tony Award-winning musical 42nd Street as their 2017 production.

Following on from previous years’ success of The Sound of Music, The King and I and most recently The Wizard of Oz, Quarry Bank Musical Theatre Society (QBMTS) will perform their latest show at Brierley Hill Civic Hall between Tuesday, June 6, and Saturday, June 10.

One of showbusiness’s most classic and beloved tales, 42nd Street tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes who gets her big break on Broadway.

Peggy arrives to New York City and her talent catches the eye of legendary Broadway director Julian Marsh, who gives her a spot in the chorus of Pretty Lady, his newest show.

Her rise from showgirl to star is the stuff of show business dreams and 42nd Street is full of crowd-pleasing tap dances, popular musical theatre standards and show-stopping ensemble production numbers.

QBMTS have been performing in the area since 1963 and in this year’s show has several members who have been reunited since performing as children, including the group’s new director and choreographer Zoe Russell who was a performer in the youth group back in the 1990s.

To buy tickets for the show, which cost £11 for adults, £10 for children and £36 for a family ticket, call the box office on 0300 123 5334.
