POP legend and star of stage and screen Jason Donovan will co-present Lye’s Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s annual ball and recognition awards.

Now in its fifth year, the event recognises the incredible stories of bravery, inspiration and lifesaving work of the Dudley Road-based charity’s aircrews, the tireless work of the volunteers and members of the public who fundraise.

Jason, who will co-host the event on Friday, June 30, with ITN News broadcaster and journalist Nina Hossain, said: “I’m full of admiration for the brave paramedics and pilots of the air ambulance.

“I spend countless hours on the road up and down the motorways touring across the UK. In the event of a serious accident it is comforting to know that we have such an incredible rapid lifesaving service available.

“I am looking forward to meeting the dedicated individuals who truly make this charity and evening a very special occasion.”

To date, the annual ball and recognition awards has raised more than £500,000 for the charity, funding over 200 lifesaving air ambulance missions.

Nina, a long-term supporter of the charity who has previously attending several of the annual ceremonies, added: “I was delighted to be asked to co present the 2017 charity ball and recognition awards with Jason Donovan

“This amazing event recognises the tireless dedication of the volunteers and fundraisers who each year help raise the £7 million that is required to keep the three helicopters operational 365 days per year.”

During the event, which is this year taking place at the NEC in Birmingham, former patients will also be given the opportunity to thank the aircrew who they credit with saving their lives.
