THE bosses of a Stourbridge jewellery shop have been left “devastated” after a burglary which has reportedly seen more than £25,000 worth of stock taken.

T H Baker was hit by raiders in the early hours of this morning (Friday May 26).

Members of the public are believed to have reported seeing suspicious behaviour at the High Street store and alerted the police.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We received a call from a member of the public at around 2.05am who informed us that he had seen four men break into a jewellers on the High Street, Stourbridge, and make off at speed in a vehicle.

"Officers were immediately dispatched and on their way to the scene, they saw a vehicle that matched the description given.

"After checking the car they were happy that this was not involved in the burglary and officers made their way to the jewellers and arrived at around 2.20am.

"The owner of the jewellers was called and an investigation into the burglary was launched.

"Officers continue to make enquiries into the burglary, local CCTV is currently been trawled and the witness has been spoken to."

Store manager Kevin Yates said: “Although this is a terrible situation and we are devastated that this has happened in such a great town; we would really like to focus on, and draw attention to the bravery and huge help the two members of the public were, in attempting to stop this robbery.

"We can’t thank them enough. We won’t let this incident faze us.”

He told the News the store would be back open for business as usual on Saturday May 27.
