MARY Stevens Hospice is “pulling out all the stops” to make their upcoming family fun day the best one they have ever held.

The Stourbridge charity host their summer fayre every year, and this time organisers said they have gone above and beyond to ensure there is a “plethora” of activities for families to enjoy.

Among the attractions will be a full opening parade, with children's characters and performers including Elsa and Ana from Disney's Frozen, and Wagner Carrilho, who finished sixth on the 2010 series of The X-Factor, who will officially open the fayre at 11.30am.

The parade – which starts at 11am – will see floats and luxury cars take over the streets of Oldswinford as they make their way into the Hagley Road Hospice to kick-off the event and will be led by some deserving local young people who have been selected by a judging committee at the hospice as this year’s fayre queen, princes and princesses.

There will also be an invitational youth football tournament for local clubs, donkeys, a beach, a ‘mocktail’ bar, rides, craft stalls, live music, sweets and cake stalls, hot and cold refreshments, emergency service vehicles, classic cars, an all-day BBQ and a dog show, sponsored by Vets4Pets in Stourbridge.

The football tournament will be refereed by a number of special guests, including former-West Bromwich Albion and Walsall full-back turned entrepreneur James Chambers, hospice CEO Stevan Jackson and charity fundraiser and devoted local grass-roots football coach Simon Wilkes.

The community are also being encouraged to take part in the hospice’s ‘Make and Bake Tent’, which is open to entries from the general public in a range of categories from crafts like baking and knitting, right the way through to recycling challenges and photography.

There will also be the opportunity for families to submit entries on the day, as part of the tent will be a ‘do-it-on-the-day’ section.

It also promises to be a day to remember for 11-year old local fundraiser Louis Johnson, who will be getting into a bath full of beans with The Fizzogs and Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Dave Tyler, to raise money for the charity.

Amanda Bowen, deputy head of fundraising at Mary Stevens Hospice, said: “There’s a lot going on, and we're hoping it’ll be a day the community can enjoy and remember for many years to come.

“We really have put so much hard work into it, and we're pulling out all the stops to ensure there’s something for absolutely everyone to enjoy.

“It’s the perfect way for families to end the summer holidays, and we can't wait to see them there on the day.”

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, September 2, in the Hagley Road grounds of Mary Stevens Hospice, and entry costs just £2 for adults and £1 for children.
