AN elderly woman who was hit by an Iceland delivery van in Wordsley has died, police have confirmed.

The crash happened in Lawnswood Road shortly after 1.15pm on Friday (September 8).

The 88-year-old pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with multiple injuries including a head injury.

But despite the best efforts of medics, she later died.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting the police with their investigations.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us, the collision took place as the pedestrian crossed Lawnswood Road, near to the Sainsbury’s Local.

"Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the lady who lost her life, specialist officers are supporting them at this difficult time.”
