TRIBUTES have been paid to a young mum who was killed during a horror car crash in Lower Gornal.

Vikki Jones was pronounced dead at the scene of the two car smash in Wood Street at 10.10pm on Friday night (September 22).

Heartbroken friends and relatives have rallied round to support the 30-year-old's family and a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral costs exceeded its £1,000 target within 48 hours.

A statement on the page described Ms Jones as a "loving daughter, mother and sister" and a "lovely aunty, cousin, niece and friend".

It continued: "She lived for her family and was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to meet her.

"Vikki has left a heartbroken family behind and an 11-year-old daughter without her mom.

"Please help Vikki Jones' family give her the send off she deserves and at least relieve some pressure for her loving mom and dad."

Ms Jones' colleagues at Birmingham Airport's ground handling company, Swissport, have also been left devastated by the news of her death.

She had worked as a customer services agent for the company since December last year, having previously worked for Aviator.

A Swissport spokesman said Ms Jones had "proved herself to be a caring and well respected colleague and friend", adding: "She will be sadly missed. Our condolences go to her family at this sad time."

Following the crash, police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, who has now been released on police bail.

A 17-year-old boy, who was arrested for the same offence, was released without charge.

Police say that an 11-year-old girl who was in the car with Ms Jones at the time of the crash was expected to make a full physical recovery after being taken to hospital with arm injuries.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police's Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This investigation is in its early stages and we are trying to establish exactly what happened, and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t yet spoken to us to contact us.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who sadly lost her life; specialist officers are supporting them at this difficult time."
