Evo Stik Northern Premier League: Stourbridge 0, Lancaster City 0

STOURBRIDGE will be kicking themselves after allowing maximum points to slip from their grasp following a goalless stalemate with City.

The Glassboys had enough chances to clinch the contest during a first half period when the City defence was at full stretch.

But as the game progressed, Stourbridge looked increasingly unlikely to break the deadlock against an often packed, but well drilled City defence.

It was during the early stages of the game that City's goal led a charmed life as Stourbridge created a number of openings.

Leon Broadhurst blazed over as City struggled to clear from a corner on 13 minutes and then hit the post on 22 minutes before the ball was scrambled away for a corner.

From the resulting cross, City goalkeeper Josh Powell managed to block a goalbound effort from central defender Jack Duggan.

Stourbridge continued to press and two minutes later Powell pushed another effort from the advancing Duggan round the post.

From the following corner, the unlucky Duggan was denied again, when this time City defender Ryan Winder cleared off the line.

Stourbridge went off the boil from that point and City could have snatched a goal just before half time but Paul Dugdale's effort was bravely blocked by striker Jordan Archer who was back helping out his defence.

Stourbridge could find no way through in the second half despite the introduction of new signing Devarn Green from Hednesford who looked lively at times.

It was City who could have snatched the points late in the game, Glassboys goalkeeper Matt Gould saving well at Craig Carney's feet on 81 minutes, before surviving a real scare in stoppage time when a shot from Scott Harries beat the keeper but struck City team mate Ollie Wood and cannoned back into Gould's grateful arms.
