‘ONE of the greatest Tividale games ever witnessed’ was the claim from some fans who were in attendance at the team’s 3-3 draw with Wolverhampton Casuals on Saturday.

Dave King’s side found themselves 3-0 down at half time in the West Midlands League tie, but despite playing the last 35 minutes with 10 men, somehow managed to take a point from the game.

A brace from Joseph Lawley and another strike from midfielder Nathan Jones salvaged a deserved draw.

Saturday’s point makes it four in a week for Tivi who smashed fellow title chasers Malvern Town 4-0 on Wednesday night, with striker Dan Smith bagging a hat-trick while Curtis Cocking also got on the score sheet.

King said: “Against Malvern we were fantastic. We played as well in that game as I’ve seen them. We were clinical in attack, finished our chances and were well worth the win.

“But Saturday was one of the craziest games of football I’ve ever been a part of. Some of the fans who have been here a lot longer than I have said it was one of the best games they had ever seen.

“We didn't play well in the first half. Whether that was because the Malvern game had taken it out of us, I don’t know, but we looked sluggish and lacked any of the creativity we’ve shown recently.

“But after we gave the players a bit of a rocket at half time, we came out looking like a different side. Our second half performance was something else.

“The spirit and character the players showed to get back into the game - against a very good Wolverhampton Casuals side - was something I was very proud of.

“They gave their all in that second half and came out of the game battered and bruised – a few of them will definitely be in the treatment room this week – but I was very pleased for the players.”

King said Tividale will need to repeat their second half showing when they host another of the league’s top teams in Wellington on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The manager said: “They’ve given a good account of themselves this season with good results in the league and the vase so we know it’s going to be a tough one.

“We seem to be having a lot of tough games at the moment against the teams around us in the table, but if we play like we have done recently then we will give ourselves a great chance of getting a positive result.”
