PEDMORE school pupils have helped to raise hundreds of pounds for The Big Push campaign.

Youngsters from Ham Dingle Primary School were out in force at Sainsbury’s Amblecote on Sunday (October 8), where they carefully bagged up shopping for customers in return for a donation.

In just three hours, they managed to raise £419.06.

The group included members of the School Council and those working towards the 'Me and My World' community element of the Junior Award Scheme for Schools.

Karen Phillips, fundraising manager for the Dudley Group NHS Charity, welcomed the pupils to store, told them all about the campaign - which aims to raise £30,000 to buy 50 new wheelchairs for Russells Hall Hospital - and presented them with a badge for taking part.

Julie Bate, the store's PR ambassador, said: “Sainsbury’s Amblecote is proud to get behind The Big Push campaign, which aims to provide much needed new wheelchairs for Russells Hall Hospital.

"The pupils really enjoyed the bag packing and it was lovely to see them proudly engaging with our customers at the checkouts."

Julie also wished to thank customers for their "amazing generosity".

To date, The Big Push has raised £11,916 - enough for 19 wheelchairs.
