WEST Midlands Police will be going live on social media again on Tuesday (October 17), this time giving an insight into the Central Motorway Policing Group (CMPG).

The force will broadcast through Facebook and Twitter using #WMPLive, including a live 360 broadcast which will give followers an insight into how CMPG police the regions motorways 24/7, 365 days-a-year.

Officers will also be demonstrating the award-winning close pass initiative that has now been adopted by more than 20 forces, showing the public how the force works closely with Highways England and going on patrol with traffic officers live through 360 with viewers controlling what they see.

The live broadcast will begin at around 7pm on Tuesday and will continue throughout the evening from the West Midlands Police Facebook page and Twitter accounts.

Chief Inspector Kerry Blakeman, who will be co-hosting the event with former Bill actor Stu Antony, said: “This is another opportunity to join us live and find out how we work around the clock to keep you safe.

“Our last Facebook and Twitter live attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers with the live 360 being a real hit.

“We’ll also be inviting questions during the broadcasts and look forward to answering those and helping people understand our work throughout the evening.”

Highways England emergency planning officer Frank Bird said: “We’re really pleased to be supporting our partners at West Midlands Police.

“We work really closely with the police and other emergency services to help deal with incidents as quickly and safely as possible whenever they occur on our network.

“This live broadcast will offer a fascinating glimpse into the varied and demanding role of Highways England in keeping the road network moving here in the West Midlands.”
