STOURBRIDGE’S annual canal boat rally proved another resounding success – despite being hit by gale force winds on Saturday.

Storm Brian took its toll on visitor numbers and traders on the first day of the popular Stourbridge Navigation Trust open weekend on October 21.

But on Sunday the sun shone and the crowds flooded into Canal Street and The Bonded Warehouse for the second day of the event which typically draws up to 100 boats and thousands of visitors to the Stourbridge Canal.

The trial of a Dudley doctor accused of making a string of sex attacks on patients could be switched to Birmingham.

Dr Jaswant Rathore faces charges of sexual assault involving a number of complainants, alleged to have been committed between September 2013 and May 2015.

The 59-year-old, who has been suspended from treating patients by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court for a pre-trial review to determine the course of the case.

An Oldbury man has been given a suspended sentence for drink driving.

Brian James Horton, of Conway Avenue, had 60mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath when he was caught behind the wheel in Halesowen on July 2. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

The 33-year-old was also sentenced for assaulting a woman on three separate occasions, possessing cocaine and causing £1,000 worth of damage to a door, Playstation 4, TV, mobile phones and a bird cage.

He was given a 24 week prison sentence, suspended for two years and must pay compensation of £600.

A woman was taken to hospital following a crash between a lorry and a car in Kidderminster this morning (Monday October 23).

Emergency services crews were called to the A449 - close to the junction of the B4189, Wolverley Road, and Park Gate Road - at around 8.30am on Monday morning.

The crash involved a white Kia estate car and a white Mercedes lorry.

Childhood obesity has risen in Worcestershire, new figures suggest.

Public Health England released the statistics on Friday (October 20), which show that 34.1 per cent of year six children across the county are overweight or obese, compared to 32.8 per cent a year ago.

The figures echo the national picture at 34.2 per cent.

A new footbridge over the busy A38 is one of nine projects in Bromsgrove which will benefit from a £3.43 million scheme encouraging people off the roads, to help ease traffic congestion.

The ‘uncontrolled crossing’ over the A38, off Bant Mill Road, will be replaced by the end of next year to provide a safe connection from the town centre to the train station.

The crossing currently has no push button, meaning cyclists and children arriving to nearby Bromsgrove School have had to navigate an often “dangerous” road.
