A HALESOWEN schoolgirl whose leg was broken when she was hit by a car in Brierley Hill has raised £800 towards a new wheelchair at Russells Hall Hospital.

Tegan Webb, who attends Huntingtree Primary School, was knocked down in The Wickets on May 30 and had to be rushed to the Dudley hospital for surgery.

Due to being bound to a wheelchair following her operations, Tegan wasn’t able to take part in her school’s recent sponsored walk which raised money for The Big Push campaign – which is aiming to buy 50 new chairs for Russells Hall.

But Tegan did not let that stop her from raising money in her own way, having £200 donated on her justgiving page from sponsors, as well as collecting £400 from a raffle. The NEC Angling club have also donated £200 to the cause in support of the youngster.

Tegan’s mum, Emma Samuel, said: “She wanted to raise the money as a thank you to everyone who helped her at Russells Hall and she now realises how important the wheelchairs are, as she couldn’t get about without one for a while after her accident.

“After her third operation a couple of weeks ago she had to use the wheelchairs again. The new chairs made such a difference for Tegan. They are really comfy, the leg rest works and I could steer it.

“She has still got a few more appointments and possibly physio but she’s had the pins taken out of her leg and she is on the mend now.

“She is extremely grateful to everyone who has supported The Big Push and helped her raise over £800.”

Tegan’s schoolmates at Huntingtree have also been busy, raising a current total of £1933.74 for the campaign through a coffee morning and cake sale, the sponsored walk-a-thon and an upcoming lucky dip toy sale.

Jim Harrold, headteacher, said: “We are extremely proud of Tegan and the resilience she has shown to bounce back from her accident.

“She turned that negative into a real positive by raising an amazing amount towards The Big Push campaign.

“Tegan has done all of the fundraising in her own time, organising raffles and online donations and everyone at our school is extremely proud of the example she is setting to others.”

Stourbridge News:

The campaign aims to raise £30,000 to buy the new wheelchairs for Russells Hall Hospital and to date, The Big Push has raised £18,746 – enough for 31 chairs.
