A WORDSLEY burglar who took part in a frightening attack on the home of a Stourbridge man to get money to buy drugs has been jailed for 20 months.

Danny Boden was one of two masked men who used a crowbar to smash the front window of a ground floor flat in Western Road.

The men got into the property where they smashed the TV but they fled empty handed when they realised the occupier had dashed to get help.

Howard Searle, prosecuting, said 35-year-old Boden cut his hand on the broken window and he was then traced by police using DNA testing.

Judge James Burbidge QC, at Wolverhampton Crown Court, told Boden it was clear the owner of the flat had "feared for his safety" and the offence had left him so anxious he had a CCTV system installed on the property.

Naomi Nelson-Cofie, defending, maintained Boden, of Chapel Street - who pleaded guilty to the burglary - had acted out of character.

She told the court Boden had first maintained he had acted as a look-out on the raid at a time when he was in the "grip of his drug addiction".

Miss Nelson-Cofie said he was full of remorse for his actions and he had told police officers he "felt sorry for the bloke" in the flat.

She stressed to the court that no threats had been made to the victim with the crowbar and it was accepted he had been badly affected by what happened.

Mr Searle said that in a victim impact statement the flat owner described how the offence had left him feeling wary because Boden's previous convictions included offences of violence.
