A YOUNG Belbroughton film-maker has switched to shooting stills and is celebrating the launch of his first exhibition.
Tom Doyle had his sights set on becoming Britain's answer to Steven Spielberg and he had an impressive CV under his belt, which included stints at Twickenham Film Studios helping out on top Miramax features and scooping an array of film festival awards for his many short flicks.
But the 21-year-old from The Glebe, who packed out the village hall with the premiere of his WWII feature Screaming Eagles in 2005, has fallen in love with good old-fashioned still pictures and has set up his own portrait photography business.
He said: "The main appeal was that there was more freedom in being able to create shots myself.
"The politics and other controlling factors of working in large teams on films means there's not that much freedom to do what I do now with still photos - where it's just myself and an assistant.
"Its great - I'm really enjoying it."
With the help of Business Link Kidderminster, who have given him a £500 start-up grant, Tom has been able to launch his first exhibition - at Kidderminster's Forest Glades Leisure Centre.
He said: "Not only have I been able to do this exhibition from the grant, but I've been able to purchase other photography and post-production equipment which I wouldn't have been able to do."
Running until December 15 - Tom's display features a selection of his limited edition landscapes, cityscapes and seascape prints, which are all available to buy.
