AN armed robber who threatened post office staff and customers with a gun before making off with cash has been jailed for more than four years.

Adrian Edwards left workers and members of the public terrified after holding up Hawne Post Office in Stourbridge Road, Halesowen.

Staff managed to raise the alarm, but the 38-year-old escaped with a quantity of money during the incident on July 4.

Investigations identified a car seen near to the robbery at the time and Edwards was arrested from that vehicle after it was tracked down two days later.

The weapon was recovered and established to be a fake.

Edwards, of no fixed address, was convicted of robbery and the possession of an imitation firearm following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court where he was sentenced to four-and-a-half year’s imprisonment.

Detective Sergeant Leighton Shingles, from West Midlands Police’s CID, said: “This was a terrifying experience for customers and staff who did not know if the weapon was real or not.

“We worked tirelessly to quickly identify and arrest this dangerous individual.”
