A FOOTBALL fun day is set to take place in the Black Country to keep the memory of two men who died from heart attacks alive.

Brothers Gurcharan and Herjinder Bhujhangy have organised for their sixth charity five-a-side football tournament to go ahead at Goals in Cakemore Road, Blackheath, on Sunday, June 3.

The event, which will raise money for the British Heart Foundation, is being held in honour of their father Dalbir Khanpur Bhujhangy who died at the age 59 and the pair’s friend Harman Dhami who was just 37 when he passed away.

Both brothers are also talented musicians in the UK Bhangra industry who have been performing with their beloved father from a young age and still perform today “to keep his legacy alive”.

Paying tribute to Dalbir and Harman, Gurcharan, who lives in Halesowen, said: “Our dear father was part of the legendary band called Bhujhangy Group and appeared in the Guinness World Book of Records.

“He was a great humble person and a great singer and musician.

“Harman’s will to win on the pitch was only equalled by his uncanny ability to make his brothers cry with laughter off it.

“He entered this pitch with his heart on his sleeve and left it as a legend.”

The brothers are inviting teams of all ages and abilities to take part in the competition, which kicks off at noon and will also include a charity raffle and refreshments.

Gurcharan added: “It should be a really good day as we have fun and ultimately raise as much money as we can for a good cause.”

Adult teams cost £70 and children's teams – ranging from under 8s to under 16s – cost £30, with a maximum of seven players per team.

Anyone who wants to take part and submit a team need to do so before May 21 by calling Goals on 0121 561 3000 or Gurcharan on 07762 521584.
