CONCERNED Stourbridge GP Steve Mann is on a mission to make men more aware about the dangers of prostate cancer.

But the GP, who is based at the Lion Health Centre, is only too aware the subject is something that some men would prefer to push into the background.

So Steve has come up with the idea of taking the issue out of a medical environment in a bid to encourage more men to come forward.

Instead he is holding a prostate cancer screening event at Stourbridge Rugby Club on June 13 which he believes will reach out to more people.

The event starts at 6pm where he will be asking all men over 50 to take part in a finger prick blood test which can provide results within five to 10 minutes.

Steve said: “I feel that sometimes men's health is seen as Cinderella in the health care area.

“I believe that by getting men together and meeting in a non-medical environment will enable us to reach out to the male community and make a difference with a beer in our hands and a smile on our faces.”

Anyone who would like to take the test should register and download a ticket, which is absolutely free and will enable the organisers to accurately order the test kits.

If too many people apply, then further events will be arranged as no stone will be left unturned.

Although the tests are free, organisers are asking for a donation of £5 to cover the costs of the test.

Any surplus money made from the event will be donated to Prostate Cancer UK.
