ENGLAND football fans celebrating the end of 22 years of penalty shoot-out misery took over Stourbridge town centre's busiest road on Tuesday night.

This video (best watched in full screen), which is doing the rounds on social media, shows dozens of partying supporters bringing parts of the St John's Road ring road to a standstill after Eric Dier's crucial spot-kick sent England into the World Cup quarter-finals after a 1-1 draw with Colombia.

The fans chanted 'Football's Coming Home' and waved St George's flags after watching Gareth Southgate's England win a World Cup game on penalties for the first time ever.

England's only previous international tournament shoot-out success came more than two decades ago, when they beat Spain to reach the semi-finals of the 1996 European Championships.

Despite venturing out onto the main road - never a safe thing - the fans seemed to be peaceful. And rather than motorists being annoyed at their antics, some actually encouraged the revellers, honking their horns to the sound of the fans' chants.

But they might be well advised to avoid a repeat of the road invasion on Saturday should England reach the semi-finals by beating Sweden - drivers trying to get home at 5-6pm on a weekend might not be as friendly as those on the road at 10-11pm on a Tuesday night.
