A COWARDLY cyclist rides off without stopping after knocking a little girl off her bike – sparking warnings someone could be seriously hurt by reckless riders along Stourbridge canal towpaths.

This CCTV footage from antiques shop Grandad’s Attic, on Canal Street near the Bonded Warehouse, displays the callous cyclist showing no concern or remorse for the incident.

The rider scoots off a low wall before colliding with the young girl – knocking her over – as her parents react furiously to the cyclist.

But despite looking back, the cyclist fails to stop and check on the girl’s welfare after the incident which happened on Sunday (July 8) at around 1.05pm.

Grandad’s Attic owner Dave Powell says the incident is not the first in recent weeks and is calling for something to be done about the menaces who are giving cyclists a bad name.

Mr Powell said: “We have had a few incidents recently of chaps on mountain bikes treating the canal towpaths like a racing circuit.

“This one yesterday, he jumped off the wall and the little girl was completely knocked off her bike to the ground. She had cuts and grazes but the cyclist didn’t stop.

“Only last week another chap was nearly knocked over. On that occasion, the cyclist was just laughing when the man shouted at him.

“I personally believe bikes should have their own insurance, like motorbikes and cars. If this keeps happening, somebody could be seriously hurt or even killed.”

The CCTV footage has been shown on the Grandad’s Attic Facebook page, with the cyclist’s actions sparking fury among social media users.

‘Disgraceful’, ‘disgusting’, ‘low-life’ were some of the more publishable reactions, while one user said the cyclist had ‘no moral compass’ and another said it should be classed as a ‘hit-and-run’.
