GENEROUS worshippers at Cradley Heath Central Mosque raised £500 within the space of just two hours at a cake and sweet sale during the festival of Eid-ul-fitr.
The mosque staged two prayer sittings, from which they sold the goodies and then donated the money to Dudley Group NHS Charity.
But the mosque is no stranger to raising money for local charity.
Adnan Tariq, the mosque’s communications officer, said: “We've been raising funds for different charities over the past four or five years.
“Every time, we try to select a different charity. For instance, two years ago we donated £700 worth of goods to the Brierley Hill Food Bank.
“This latest money that we have raised, we've specifically asked that it goes to the children’s appeal.
“We find that selling sweets and cakes goes down really well, especially with the youngsters, rather than other foods.
“There is another Eid coming up at the end of August when we will be looking for another charity to support.
“It's good that we can help the local community. The mosque was originally built by the elders of our community and over the years we have helped numerous charities, going forward we would like to help local charities in our community.”
