A PAIR of students from Halesowen College have claimed first and third in the regional heats of a national Beauty World Skills competition.

Demi Harper, aged 18, from Halesowen, was given first place ahead of Coseley 19-year-old Jessica Shortland, who came third. Both of the students studied a level three course in beauty therapy.

The World Skills competition focuses on the role and the tasks of a beauty therapist and those taking part had to carry out a back cleanse followed by a back massage, a mini facial with evening make-up and a French polish to fingers.

All treatments had to be carried out within one hour and 40 minutes.

Alicia Harper, from Halesowen College, said: “The competition is designed to promote standards and skills across and industry and Demi and Jessica did themselves proud.

“They were observed through all the stages and put all their hard work into practice to a tight deadline.”

Following the regional heaths, the UK final is set to take place in August.
