STOURBRIDGE boss Gary Hackett praised the exciting attacking trio of Greg Mills, Luke Benbow and Robert Thompson-Brown following his side's success over Stratford Town.

The Glassboys picked up their first victory of the season with a comfortable win at Amblecote on Monday night.

Goals from Mills, Aaron Hayden and Leon Broadhurst got their home campaign in the Southern League Central off to the perfect start.

It was the promising link-up play between Stour's key attackers that proved the difference in a one-sided first half at the War Memorial Ground.

Hackett said: "All three of them have got great qualities. Millys is great for the fans, he's exciting to watch. Robbie is just such a clever football and made things happen and you look at Luke tonight and his fitness levels are so much higher than last season and it makes so much difference to the team.

"They are clever footballers and you can see that they trust each other and that's a big thing. Last season I realised that we didn't have enough in that department and I need to improve it.

"I thought all the signings did well. Jordaan Brown has had to be rushed in at left-back today and I thought he was excellent against a very good player."

On the victory, he added: "First half, we were excellent. We came out the blocks, played some great football, looked a threat from set-pieces, scored some good goals and defended very well.

"We've gone in 3-0 at half time and you've got to be delighted with that. I said at half time that we can make it easy or we can make it hard for ourselves.

"They were always going to have a little bit of a go but I think we negated that threat from them and rode out comfortable winners."

The Glassboys will now host Rushden and Diamonds this Saturday (3pm kick-off) as they look to build on their solid start to the new campaign.

Hackett is pleased to pick up a first win but won't be getting carried away.

He added: "You have to be realistic but the great thing is that we've got four points on the board already and it takes a little bit of pressure of.

"There is nothing worse and I've been here when you've lost the first couple and the pressure suddenly mounts and it never stops in football. You are always four or five games away from a crisis.

"It's still early doors but hopefully there is more to come."
