KINGSWINFORD'S Michael Rutter endured mixed fortunes as he held on to his sixth place position in the British Superbikes Championship standings after the fifth round at Snetterton.

It was definitely a meeting of two very different races for North West 200 Ducati rider Rutter who had been up against it after qualifying as he could only post the seventh fastest time.

He struggled to get any movement through the field in race one and had to settle for a disappointing ninth place finish - some 17 seconds behind race winner Leon Camier.

Ironically, Rutter fared better in the second race that was run on a greasy track following heavy rain.

The conditions delayed the start and ensured that the race was reduced to 15 laps.

But Rutter found the tricky track conditions to his liking and moved up through the field to finish in an impressive fourth place in a race that was won by the runaway championship leader Shane Byrne.

It was that fourth spot that helped Rutter to stay in sixth in the rankings and still in sight of the top three.

He now stands on 102 points - 49 behind third place man Cal Crutchlow.

The Championship now moves on to Mallory Park for round six on June 29.
