A second six-wicket haul in as many weeks from Imran Ali steered an in-form Halesowen side to an emphatic win away over Cannock to lift them up to eighth in Division One of the Birmingham League.

Fourth-placed Cannock won the toss, decided to bat, and slumped to 105 all out with Ali taking 6-24.

In reply, the visitors easily reached their target for the loss of only three wickets, with the returning Matt Pardoe top scoring with 37 not out.

Captain Mark Fisher said: "We have put a good run together over the last three weeks, with Imran Ali again bowling superbly. Matt Pardoe's stylish knock on his return from injury augurs well for our continued climb up the table."

This coming Saturday the firsts welcome Harborne to Seth Somers Park (1pm start).

Elsewhere on Saturday the seconds entertained Tamworth.

In a high-scoring match that could have gone either way until the 44th over, Halesowen finished on 214 for 9 in reply to Tamworth's 263 for 6.

The hosts won the toss and asked Tamworth to bat first.

Despite early inroads reducing Tamworth to 45 for 3, the visitors kept up the pressure on bowling that was found wanting at times.

Halesowen's reply got off to the worst possible start with Shazad Ali removed for four in the first over, and Leon Everett and Mark Hutchinson also falling cheaply to reduce the home side to 40 for 3.

The arrival of Chris Round to join skipper Steve Baker helped to steady the ship and they proceeded to rebuild the reply, firstly getting them to a position of safety and then pushing on for victory. Having put on 95 in 22 overs, Baker fell for 45 to bring Richard Cox to the crease. Cox and Round put on 38 and home hopes were high.

However, after the fall of Cox, two more wickets fell in quick succession and the chase petered out. Despite a tense last over, Halesowen escaped with a losing draw.

Baker said: "Although we didn't bowl and field as I know we can, the most disappointing aspect of today was that we again gave away early wickets which put us on the back foot. "We'll be hoping for a better result for this coming Saturday's (June 21) visit to Himley."

The Halesowen Sunday firsts returned to winning ways with a win at home to Feckenham. After restricting the visitors out for 210, Halesowen completed the victory with over two overs to spare, recovering from 70 for 7.

Kester Mosley scored an outstanding 110 and opening bowler Chris Jones hung around brilliantly with Mosley to take the game away from Feckenham.

Captain Joe Tromans said: "It was a brilliant effort from both Kester and Chris to turn the game round as they did. Feckenham were extremely shocked but I always believed that the pair could pull it off."

Halesowen travel to Colwall this Sunday.

OLD HILL firsts had a excellent winning draw in their top of the table clash at Stratford. Having been asked to bat first, Old Hill's Libran Khan scored a unbeaten 50 with Nathan Round scoring 51 in their total of 211 for 8.

The visitors depleted bowling attack struck straight away with Paul Lazenbury trapping the Brian May.

Chris Hansberry took 4 for 43 but Stratford having lost wickets steadily shut up shop to end on 143 for 7.

The draw keeps Old Hill top of Division One.

Meanwhile the seconds picked up a brilliant win at home to Barnt Green. The visitors chose to bat first and were restricted to 183-9.

Pick of the Old Hill bowlers tight bowling was captain Mo Javaid who took 5-16.

In reply Old Hill lost early wickets but Jon Baig and Matt Colwell came together to see Old Hill home.

The thirds produced a poor performance at home to Coombs Wood.

Having restricted the opposition to a score of just over a hundred the hosts suffered a huge batting collapse in their reply despite passing 50 without losing a wicket.

This Saturday the firsts travel to Attock (1pm start), the seconds host West Bromwich Dartmouth (1.30pm start) and they are at home to Stone (1.30pm start).
