Thousands turn out for fun day

THOUSANDS of people turned up to support the first family fun day held in Quarry Bank's Stevens Park.

The event held on Saturday June 28 featured attractions such as children's character Peppa Pig, a fun fair and a show by stunt team The Knights of The Damned, who wowed crowds at a similar day held in Mary Stevens park in Stourbridge last year.

Organisers of the event were The Friends of Stevens Park and the Stourbridge and Black Country Events Corporation, who helped organise various live music acts including Stourbridge blues artist Ian Parker, Ex Eton Road star Markus Collins, rockers Sons of Albion, a four piece band fronted by Logan Plant, son of Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.

Money raised from the day went to Friends of Stevens Park with other community stalls raising cash for their funds as well.

Quarry Bank Royal British Legion held a stall at the event to raise money for their poppy appeal which was supported by the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, a group of motorcycle enthusiasts.

The National group help to raise funds for the British Legion by participating in military events, motorcycling shows and supporting the communities events.

Member Gloria Donovan, said: "It was a lovely day, we thank the Royal British Legion Riders Branch for their help to raise cash for the poppy appeal.

"In total we have raised £288 from donations and the tombola and We also thank Lynda Waltho for her support on the day."

Quarry Bank ward councillor Tina While-Cooper, said: "It was a great success and a fantastic day and the weather really helped.

"There was a really good atmosphere and it was lovely to see the park being used for an event like this and bringing communities together."
