Primary pupils are poetry in motion

CHILDREN from an Orpington primary school waxed lyrical at their poetry recital.

The first Green Street Green Primary School poetry recital saw children from reception to year six select, memorise and recite a poem aloud.

Pupils from the Vine Road school recited poetry, which they chose themselves, either individually or in groups.

Over the two weeks of the contest one individual or group from each of the 14 classes was picked to recite poetry in front of Orpington children's librarian Lynne Overton, local bookseller Martin Anthony and school governor Jenny Salter.

The trio had to make the difficult decision on whose poetic performance was perfect.

The infants prize was won by Heather MacKay, Andrea Courtneidge and Molly Simpson who recited Did You Really by Judith Nicholls.

Megan Marsh from year five who recited Red Riding Hood and the Wolf by Roald Dahl.

The remaining 19 finalists all received copies of Kaye Webbs' I Like This Poem.
