An 11 year old bike rider has been airlifted to hospital following an accident along a canal tow path in Stourbridge.

West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the canal tow path that runs between Bells Mill and the scrap yard at Prestwood Drive, to the north of Stourbridge at around 2.50pm on Saturday July 19.

An ambulance, rapid response car, an incident support officer and the County Air Ambulance were in attendance.

Paramedic Mike McGain- Harding said: "The lad who had been riding with his father, had come off his bike and suffered a very nasty injury.

"His father was not sure of the location and could only give a few details.

"I know the area well and so did my colleague of the responce car, so working with the staff from the emergency operations centre, we went to either end of the tow path and worked our way along until we came to the patient.

"We were then able to direct the helicoptor and incident support officer to the location."

The 11 year old boy is believed to be from the Birmingham area and had suffered a painful and serious injury, was flown with his father to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
