Kinver scout training camp receive £2,000 towards appeal

THE chairman of Stambermill scout group has helped to raise over £2,000 towards Kinver scout training camp fundraising appeal.

Martin Homer from Wollaston, decided he wanted to help raise money for the camp, as they need to raise between £170,000 and £200,000 for refurbishment of facilities.

He became aware of the appeal after Stambermill scout group regularly use the facilities at the training camp.

The camp need to raise money for a new toilet block and improve facilities to include disabled access.

Martin Homer decided to hold a fundraising charity weekend over August bank holiday and invited his friends and family to take part in activities.

The weekend featured real ale beers and a pig roast as well as archery and a climbing wall.

Martin said: “I decided to hold another weekend, after the success of my joint 60th birthday, with my friend John Newall.

“It was a great weekend and very much fun and we raised money for a good cause.

“The facilities are great up there and scout groups from across the country benefit from the facilities they have.”

Volunteer, Dave Paget from Kinver scout training camp, said the appeal was launched two years ago, when they applied for lottery funding.

The camp were not successful with their lottery bid and have been trying to raise the money themselves.

Kinver Scout Camp have raised £10,000 towards the fund and are extremely grateful for any help they receive.

Dave said: “At the moment we can’t accommodate for people who have special needs as we are trying to raise funds to build a new toilet block for the central part of the camp.

“It is a shame as special needs children are missing out, it is very sad they can not get involved at the moment.

“We are extremely grateful for Martin for helping to raise money, he has done a wonderful job.

“We have had many scout groups come and visit over the years, but we are very reluctant to approach them and ask them for money, as they have to raise funds for their own scout halls.”
