A STOURBRIDGE youngster who gained an apprenticeship place with a steel manufacturer has proved teenagers do care about their careers.

A recent survey taken by over 765 young people from across the UK has proved nearly nine out of ten teenagers were confident about finding a job.

Sam Woodhams, aged 19, from Lye, proved learning on the job can be as successful as going to college.

He is currently in his second year as a technical apprentice with the Hadley Group, the largest cold rolled steel manufacturer in the UK.

He said: “After school I started studying engineering full-time at college but it wasn’t really for me.

“Getting on an apprenticeship couldn’t be better- I’m earning decent money, getting new skills al the time and I still go to college on day release so I can pick up the theory and compare experiences with other people my age.”
