STOURBRIDGE MP Lynda Waltho was today (Tuesday December 30) encouraging people to help the Woodland Trust to create new woods by recycling their Christmas cards.
The MP is urging people to take their cards along for recycling at WH Smith in Stourbridge, or at Tesco, TK Maxx or Marks & Spencer stores.
Bins will be at all the stores throughout January.
All cards collected during the campaign will then be taken to paper mills and recycled into new paper products. Money raised will help the UK's leading woodland conservation charity to plant thousands of trees.
Labour MP Lynda said: "I send and receive many hundreds of cards each year even though I also make extensive use of email so it’s important to take advantage of these local recycling schemes whenever possible.
“Since the scheme was founded 12 years ago more than 600 million cards have been recycled, which has enabled the charity to plant 140,000 trees."
Last year 73.6 million cards were recycled - enabling the Woodland Trust to plant 17,000 trees in some of its 1,000 UK woods.
